Raven

Raven is a brilliant, affectionate, sometimes derpy companion for anyone with a lot of love to give.

Adjusting to a new home is never easy, but Raven is quick to learn what the daily routine is! She has her own cozy dog bed, (although she loves the sofa too) but will come check on you around 7am by walking into your room and yawning in your face. She usually goes outside first thing in the morning, and loves a peaceful walk or run. She rarely pulls, and understands “heel”, “stay”, and “I’m gonna get you” — that will trigger zoomies. She’s very expressive with her body language and woofs, so it’s obvious what she wants. When she comes in from outside, she will sit at the door and expect her muddy feet to be wiped.

Raven thrives in peaceful, loving homes with solid weekly routines. Learning new tricks is easy when using treats. If you don’t want Raven in certain rooms, or on some furniture, simply tell her “no” and she remembers after 2-3x. She also understands “go to bed”. Raven really tries her best to be good and responds well to praise. She will fall in love with her people fast, so when leaving her home alone, it’s important to give her antlers or bully sticks to distract her at first. Otherwise, she will look for you by opening all the doors — yes, she knows how. She has even figured out deadbolts too, don’t underestimate her intelligence! You will become Raven’s whole world, so it takes some time to learn that when you leave the house, there’s nothing to worry about. This is the trickiest learning curve for a dog with such a big heart and big emotions.

Raven is always down for adventures though! She loves car rides and will sometimes request them out of nowhere. She only wants to be with you wherever you go (except the car wash or shower). Meeting a lot of new people at once can be intimidating for Raven, but she warms-up quickly to most adults. Just be sure to brace them for the classic Dane lean! If Raven is really excited, she will jump but never make contact. It’s a “gentle jump”. The ideal home is one where she is the only dog, but she will make friends with submissive male dogs. Raven can get used to new people and new situations if introduced slowly. Patients, love, understanding, and treats are the keys to the perfect companion.
